The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled a cheese product over an undeclared ingredient being reported.

HP Hood (LAFARGEVILLE)'s Fat Free Cottage Cheese with Pineapple Added 16oz plastic tub was recalled on May 10, after two or more people said there was undeclared sugar in the product.

On Tuesday, it was given a Class II classification by the FDA, which means "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote".

There are 753 cases in total, the FDA's enforcement report shows.

Newsweek has contacted HP Hood (LAFARGEVILLE) for comment.

If you have bought a recalled product, the FDA says to check if the store where you bought it is accepting returns for a full refund—as is often the case.

If not, "dispose of the product properly—if it's contaminated, wrap it securely before putting it in the trash," it says.

The FDA also warns people not to give the product to a food bank or a pet.

If you think an FDA-regulated product has made you sick, you should see your health care provider and report any reaction to the FDA or the company that distributed it.

It comes after Newsweek compiled a list of all food items recalled so far this month, which include chia seeds, dog food, mixed nuts and chocolate.

Healthwest Minerals, Inc. Mt. Capra Products' Goat Milk Formula Recipe Kit was recalled because the FDA "is concerned that the formula does not meet all FDA requirements for infant formula."

Meanwhile, people with serious allergies should pay attention, as a batch of FoodScience LLC's Amyloid Complete may contain undeclared shellfish.
Similarly, Chuao Chocolatier's Potato Chip mini bar may contain undeclared nuts.

Other reasons for recalls include possible salmonella contamination.

Products that were recalled because of this are Hy-Vee Cream Cheese Spread, multiple items made by Palmer Candy Company, United Supermarkets' Chocolate Caramel Corn and Candy Tray, Natural Sourcing International's Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds and Western Mixers Produce and Nuts' Yogurt Covered Pretzels.

The FDA has said about recalls in general: "It is important that consumers be aware of recalls because recalled foods may cause injury or illness, especially for people who are pregnant or have weakened immune systems because of chronic illness or medical treatment.

"A food may be recalled because of contamination with disease-causing microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, or parasites; the presence of foreign objects such as broken glass or fragments of metal or plastic; or failure to list a major allergen in the food, such as peanuts or shellfish, on the product label."
